In Practical Political Consulting v. Land, a split panel of the Michigan Court of Appeals (majority opinion) (dissent) ruled that voter records generated in the 2008 presidential primary are subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. The records include names, addresses and which political party's ballot was requested.
The majority justified disclosure on the public's right to hold government officials accountable, i.e., did they follow the law that mandated creation of the records? The dissent said privacy rights should have prevailed. Which statement below best describes your reaction to the ruling?
